Breast Augmentation Choices: How to Save Time in Recovery

Posted January 21, 2016 in Breast Augmentation, Recovery

Like any surgical procedure, breast augmentation has a period of postoperative recovery time. There are a lot of things that a woman should do and a lot of things that she should avoid doing to ensure that her recovery goes smoothly and quickly. Here are some ways to save time in recovery after breast augmentation.

Follow the Doctor’s Postoperative Recommendations

The most important thing a woman should do to save time in recovery is follow her doctor’s postoperative recommendations. Women who assume that they don’t need to wait to return to work, that they don’t need to wear a surgical bra, or that they don’t need to wait to resume exercise could end up causing time-consuming complications and health risks. Consequences such as poor healing and infections will only prolong the recovery experience. Rest and recovery time are necessary, and following the doctor’s recommended timeline will facilitate a quick recovery so that you can resume normal activities with full confidence and health.

Consider Over-the-Muscle Placement

Placing the breast implant under the muscle requires a longer healing process because the pectoral muscle is adjusted, which takes more time to heal compared to the breast tissue alone. If you are concerned about the length of time needed for recovery, consider over-the-muscle placement, which does not displace the muscle and allows the body to heal faster. When choosing over-the-muscle placement, bear in mind that this placement tends to look less natural compared to under-the-muscle placement and is more likely to show implant rippling through the skin if it occurs.

Rest!

It is essential that patients remember to rest for a few days after surgery. This will help the body to channel most of its energy toward healing so that you heal faster. Avoid using your arms and chest muscles, and avoid unnecessary contact with your breasts while you rest. After a few days, you will be able to resume light activities and work.

Avoid Exercise and Heavy Lifting for Two Weeks

Strenuous activities can interfere with healing and cause your incisions to tear. Avoid exercise for two weeks to ensure that your recovery goes smoothly and quickly.
