Kninkles: How to Get Rid of Knee Wrinkles

Posted April 24, 2014 in Laser Skin Resurfacing, Liposuction

Woman placing both hands below her right kneeAging is a natural process that affects all people. While cosmetic surgery offers numerous procedures that can revitalize various parts of the face and body, one area that often receives little attention is the knees. Known as “kninkles,” wrinkles and sagging skin on the knees affect many women, no matter how smooth the rest of the skin on their body is. Even some of the most in-shape celebrities like Demi Moore and Catherine Zeta-Jones have fallen victim to this condition. Fortunately, cosmetic treatment can eliminate wrinkles and sagging skin on the knee area, while restoring a youthful appearance to the legs in the process.

Candidates

Good candidates for kninkle surgery are in good standing health and have not had previous knee procedures or currently suffer from arthritis. Although this procedure provides long-lasting results, patients should have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.

Correcting Kninkles

In the past, diminishing the appearance of kninkles was only attainable through exercises that targeted the quadriceps (muscle above the knees). However, even strengthening the quads typically provided less than satisfactory results. This led to the development of a procedure that effectively reduces the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin on the knees.

Kninkle Treatment

Cosmetic treatment of kninkles involves a combination of fat removal and lasers to leave the knees with a smoother, more youthful appearance. After local anesthesia is administered to numb the area, small incisions are made in the creases around the knee joint. Liposuction is then performed to remove built-up fat deposits, and a low-level heated laser is inserted to promote collagen production, which provides a tighter appearance. Once the skin is tightened, a laser is utilized to resurface the top layer of skin to remove any imperfections that remain.
