Is Rhinoplasty Revision Right for Me?

While it is certainly true that a percentage of revision procedures are needed due to botched procedures performed by poorly qualified surgeons, many revision surgeries are needed for reasons completely out of the surgeon’s control.

Things to Consider Before Revision Rhinoplasty

Those who are considering either primary or secondary rhinoplasty should know that the nose is one of the most complex areas of the entire body, complete with cartilage, tiny bones, and tissues that together form a person’s unique nose shape. The smallest change to any one of these components can significantly impact the appearance of the nose – not to mention the patient’s ability to breathe easily!

Another factor to consider is that the way the nose will heal after surgery is highly unpredictable. Swelling may last for several months after the initial procedure, and it may not completely subside until a full year afterward. Many patients request revision surgery only months after their procedure when, at that point, the full results have not become manifest. All patients should wait at least a year after their first rhinoplasty procedure before considering revision surgery.

The decision for revision surgery is a very personal one, and, depending on your unique situation, it may not be the best option for you. In order to get the nose you want, it is critical to choose a surgeon who is not only an expert in rhinoplasty, but who is also an expert in rhinoplasty revision. Dr. Terry Dubrow, as seen on the television show Botched, is praised in the Newport Beach area and beyond for his ability to reconstruct the nose after a botched procedure or as a result of uncontrollable factors. During your consultation, he can help guide you through the decision-making process to determine if revision surgery is right for you.
